The September 2018 BIA Awards turned out to be a rewarding evening for the Village Bakery.
Alan Jones, Chairman of Jones' Village Bakery won an award for his outstanding contribution to the Bakery Industry over the past 60 years.
The Village Bakery also came home with the Bakery Product of the Year 2018 for the M&S Made Without Wheat Chocolate Twist.
This was a very successful evening rewarding all of the employee’s hard work over the past year.
Alan delivered a speech, during the awards ceremony at Park Hall Lane Hotel London;
"I feel deeply honoured to have been given this Outstanding Contribution Award and the fact that it has come from my peers in the baking industry makes it all the more special.
Throughout my career I have stayed true to my roots as a craft baker and this is something that has stood me in good stead over the years.
I would also like to pay tribute to my wife, Wendy, who herself came from a family of bakers and without whom none of this would have been possible.”
Throughout Alan's career he has stayed true to his roots of being a craft baker, after leaving school at the age of 15 to start his apprenticeship at Scott's Bakery in Netherton, Liverpool gaining a City and Guilds Qualification, then a National Diploma in baking and confectionary.
Over the past 60 years Alan has transformed a small bakery with only five employees to a multi-award winning company, which now operates 3 sites, producing goods nationally. 3 factories, soon to be 4, with a new dedicated Gluten Free bakery opening early 2019.
Later on in the evening, Village Bakery also picked up Bakery Product of the Year 2018 with the Belgian Chocolate Twist, developed in the gluten free bakery. Part of a Viennoiserie range of 3 products launched into M&S in April 2018.
